Did you hear the news? The Pan Pacific Masters Games are back!! After COVID-19 forced a cancellation of the event in 2021, we all thought we’d be waiting until 2022 for the biannual event to make its come back. As huge supporters of the Games, the entire Team Trips office was seriously bummed and we’ve been counting down the days until 2022 ever since.
But just when we thought we had months of waiting ahead of us, the Pan Pacific Masters organisation committee came out to announce that the 2020 event was not cancelled, just postponed until 2021. The rescheduled event will now take place in November 2021 on the Gold Coast.
What is the Pan Pacific Masters Games?
The Pan Pacific Masters Games attracts more than 16,000 participants from over 400 countries for almost two weeks of epic sports. The Gold Coast’s famous celebration of masters sports will showcase competition in more than 40 sports at some of the best sporting facilities on the planet.
Masters athletes compete in their age group and there are no qualifying standards or times to enter. The only selection criterion is a minimum age for each sport, which is usually 30-years-old for most sports.
The theme of the 2021 event is Play it, Live it, Love it, and that means everyone can expect an absolutely jam-packed schedule throughout the competition. Beyond the sporting matches, there is also a packed nightly entertainment program at the Games Village. We’re yet to hear who will be appearing at the upcoming event, but if previous years are anything to go by – we’re expecting big things!
The world’s biggest and best biennial masters games
The Pan Pacific Masters Games was first hosted in 1998 and has grown to become the biggest biennial masters games in the entire world. It’s not just recognised as being the must-attend event for older athletes though! This event is also acclaimed as one of the best organised multi-sport events in Australia.
In previous years,16,000 athletes and their supporters have travelled to Queensland from across Australia and internationally to get involved. These crowds have cemented the event’s position as Australia’s premier multi-sport competition and is currently on par with some of the biggest sporting occasions in the world, such as the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games.
More than 40 sports to choose from
When it comes to sports, you’re absolutely spoilt for choice at the Pan Pacific Masters Games. The 2021 event will see more than 40 individual and team sports on the program. This schedule includes all the crowd favourites, such as hockey, netball and rowing. There are also a few more creative options that we can guarantee you’ll absolutely love. The outstanding sporting facilities found on the Gold Coast ensure you can make the most of your game time too. Many of the venue were purpose built or modified for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, so we’re not kidding when we say that they’re world class!
Volunteers and officials are a huge part of the games
While the stars of the show are undoubtedly the athletes, there are plenty of people working hard behind the scenes to ensure everything goes off without a hitch. Up to 1,000 volunteers will take part in the games, working across everything from the Games Village to the Check-In Centre. Some of the volunteers are actually athletes themselves, so there is a real community and collaborative atmosphere to the entire event. The beauty of having these volunteers and officials working across every match, is that there is always a friendly face that is ready and happy to answer any questions that you may have. We reckon these guys might actually be having almost more fun that the athletes too!
It’s on the Gold Coast
Last but certainly not least, the Pan Pacific Masters Games are held on the iconic Gold Coast – and what’s not to love about that? From the world renowned Surfers Paradise Strip to the more sophisticated parts of Main Beach and the laidback vibes of Coolangatta, there is no shortage of places to explore! We’re talking about theme parks, world-class surf breaks, epic restaurants and even some secluded in-land waterfalls to discover too. It’s a destination that is as scenic and peaceful as it is fast paced and active.
Team Trips
It doesn’t take long to realise that the entire Team Trips office is absolutely mad about sport. We seriously just can’t get enough of it! While we might not be partaking in the 2021 Pan Pacific Masters Games, we could just big the event’s biggest fans! As super-enthusiasts, we’re studied up on anything and everything there is to know about the vent. Luckily for you guys, we simply can’t wait to share everything we’ve learnt with you! To discover more about the Pan Pacific Masters Games, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Team Trips office.
